Kirk Hammerton is just south of the A59, in fact there are signs to the church. Little doubt that for me this is one of the most intriguing churches I have seen in Yorkshire. I came here on the return from a campsite near York.
The memorial is to the south of the church and is on a diamond shaped roundabout near to the south entrance. Well maintained too. This is the link to the datastore for the church, fascinating place. The IWM link is 29940
WOMEN: MM SERVICE, J BUXTON, VAD SERVICE, M E STANYFORTH, LADY OF GRACE OF THE ORDER OF ST JOHN OF JERUSALEM IN ENGLAND, E G J STEPHENS, E M ANTONY, E DALTON, A E JACKSON, E MOSS, M E RIPLEY, M TAIT, J WILMOT-SMITH, O E WEBSTER
Frequently find new inexplicable, but interesting information, " LADY OF GRACE OF THE ORDER OF ST JOHN OF JERUSALEM IN ENGLAND" Who does this apply to on this role of honour. There is a link to Florence Nightingale on the Internet.
