Didsbury War Memorial

Didsbury War Memorial is almost at the junction of Wilmslow road and Barlow Moor Road. This seems to be very much the heart of the community here. There are several evocative places of interest nearby and they will also be linked from here. The Library - surely a listed building, together with its blue plaques, the clock tower and Warburton Street. But it is the memorial that is highlighted here. Blackpool Town Hall Memorial

Blackpool is famous for having the tallest War Memorial in Britain. I hope I am not wrong. It however does not have the fallen/Roll of honour for the Boer War - that is in the Town Hall at Talbot Square.

I only took one picture of this memorial. I have taken pictures of some of the other information in there, but I am not happy with any of it! Quite dark and there is little space. However I am able to transcribe the names. It is difficult to distinguish C's and G's, even when I am fairly sure what the surnames "should" be - apologies; please let me know if you feel the forename initial may be wrong. This of course being a Roll of Honour does not necessarily mean that many did not return. There is a link here to the local barracks

The Kenwyn Memorial and Church Roll of Honour

This is the Kenwyn war memorial, situated on the B3284, the road north from Truro. It is situated at the junction of Kenwyn Hill and Knights hill. If you turn right from along Knights hill it will take you to Kenwyn Church, which has some rather unusual features. They are highlighted in the Kenwyn Datastore blogsite here. The stone memorial is situated at the junction and the roll of honour as well as the list of vicars is displayed in the church.

The inscription on the memorial are inlaid in lead. However time has caused some of the inscriptions to become indistinct and some have disappeared.

Although the Roll of Honour and the memorial serve different purposes it is unclear on the roll of honour who fell, and those who returned.

Set in the corner of Kenwyn hill and Knights Hill, at a bend in the road.

The road on the right disappears down to Truro.
The town centre sigh goes to Kenwyn, but actually leads to the church.

St Thomas' Church, St Annes

Attended a the christening of my granddaughter at this church, Coincidently really close to where I used to live. I suspect the names of these fallen could also be on the St Annes and Lytham memorials. But I am not sure. This memorial is quite well hidden on the right hand side of the aisle in a dark side of the church. The first image is of the memorial, the others are pictures of the church. The church tower is a financial liability, there is always a possibility that it may have to be demolished. I will publish more pictures of the memorial in due course.
